SPMU - What To Expect

If you are new to semi-permanent make-up, it's natural to have questions about what the process entails. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect when you come to Harmony Beauty Salon for your semi-permanent make-up treatment.

Consultation: Before your semi-permanent make-up treatment, you'll have a thorough consultation with Nadine. During this session, you’ll discuss your goals and desired look. Whether you’re aiming for subtle enhancements or bolder definition, we will help you choose the right shape, colour, and style for your facial features. The technician will also assess your skin type and undertone to ensure the pigment matches seamlessly. This consultation is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to set realistic expectations for the outcome.

Patch Test: To ensure the pigments and products we use are safe for your skin, we perform a patch test during your consultation. This is a quick and simple procedure that involves applying a small amount of pigment to your skin to check for any allergic reactions. The patch test is an essential safety measure to prevent any adverse reactions during your treatment.

The Treatment: On the day of your treatment, Nadine will begin by numbing the area with a topical anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort. The procedure itself can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the area being treated and the complexity of the design. Using a fine needle, she will carefully apply pigment to the dermal layer of your skin in fine, hair-like strokes or shading techniques to create a natural effect.

For eyebrows, we offer various techniques such as microblading (individual hair strokes) or powder brows (a soft, shaded look). For eyeliner, we can create a thin, natural line along the lash line or a more defined, dramatic look. Lip treatments can be used to outline and add fullness, as well as enhance the natural colour of your lips.

Aftercare: After the procedure, the treated area may appear slightly darker or more intense than expected. This is normal and part of the healing process. Over the next 7–10 days, the pigment will gradually soften and settle into the skin, resulting in a more natural look. You may also experience slight swelling or scabbing, but this should subside within a few days.

It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions provided to ensure optimal healing. This may include avoiding direct sunlight, swimming pools, and makeup in the treated area for a short period of time.

Follow-up Appointment: Most clients will require a follow-up appointment 4 to 6 weeks after the initial treatment to perfect the look and make any necessary adjustments. This is a crucial part of the process as it allows us to assess how your skin has retained the pigment and to ensure the final result meets your expectations. A colour boost or retouch will be required within a year/ eighteen months to keep your semi-permanent make-up looking fresh and vibrant.
